Top 7 Popular Anime Movies That Are Worth Your Time

In case you didn’t know, the anime genre is not limited to Japanese cartoons. It’s a diverse, artistic, and highly poetic brand of TV and cinema. You may have seen the Hollywood version of one or more Anime movies. Let me guess, it was The Departed (which was originally a Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs). I have seen it over 20 times on my Spectrum TV and DVD player combined.

Some remakes are nice others don’t do justice to the original anime content. The only justice is to watch the original anime movies.

So are you up for the challenge of watching anime movies this weekend? Grab a weighted blanket, order your favorite wine, and prepare an enormous bowl of popcorn because you are about to have a wonderful experience:

Here is the list of top 7 Anime Movies:

1: Your Name

This movie is a blend of romance, drama, and fantasy. Two teenagers, Taki and Mitsuha, discover a bizarre and magical connection. They are mysteriously drawn towards one another. How? That’s truly a work of art that you must see to believe. Things get complicated when they decide to meet in person.

Your Name scored the position of the highest-grossing Japanese movie and 9th highest-grossing non-English anime movies worldwide, so it’s worth watching.

2: Princess Mononoke

Who hasn’t heard of “Princess Mononoke.” It was a heavy-hitting anime movie of its time, majorly because of its environmental concerns.

Mononoke tells the story of a young protagonist, Ashitaka, searching for a cure to a curse from a deer-like god, Shishigami. He is caught in a conflict between spirits in the forest and an evil mining company. The movie is going to get a little bloody, so bear with it. But it’s brilliant. You will be thrilled by the high octane animations.

3: Castle in the Sky

Here is another gem that you wouldn’t want to miss out on. An orphan, Sheeta, and Col. Muska, her kidnapper, are flying to a military prison. A gang of air pirates attacks their plane. Sheeta nearly escapes the attack and meets Pazu, who is also an orphan. Together, the two set on a journey to find an airborne island called Laputa. They are faced with lots of hardships. Some airship pirates start hunting for Sheeta to steal her mysterious amulet.

Later in the movie, you will learn about her origins and that of Laputa. Among the many lovable qualities of the Castle in the Sky, the audience admired the animation the most.

4: Howl’s Moving Castle

This top-grossing anime movie was released in 2004 in Japan. It’s based on Diana Wynne Jones’s novel of the same name.

The main character of the story, Sophie, is transformed into a 90-year-old woman by a witch’s curse. To undo the curse, she befriends Wizard Howl, who lives in a magical flying castle (hence the name).

Howl must use all his magical powers to battle the evil witch and return Sophie to her youth and beauty? The storyline may sound typical, but it’s not. It’s quite exciting to watch all the plot unfolds.
